Google Chrome – Clear Download History (Updated)
You can remove some or all items from Chrome’s download history.
This does not delete the actual files from your computer; it only removes them from Chrome’s Downloads list.
Open the Downloads page
You can access your downloads in any of these ways:
- Click More (⋮) in the top‑right corner → Downloads
- Or type chrome://downloads in the address bar
- Keyboard shortcuts:
- Windows / Linux / ChromeOS: Ctrl + J
- macOS: ⌘ + Shift + J
Remove individual items from your download history
- Open the Downloads page.
- Find the download you want to remove.
- Click Remove from list (✕ or the three‑dot menu, depending on your Chrome version).
- Repeat for any other items you want to remove.
Removing an item only clears it from the list—it does not delete the file from your device.
Clear all download history at once
- Open the Downloads page.
- Click the More options (⋮) menu on the Downloads toolbar.
- Select Clear all.
This removes every entry from the Downloads page, but your downloaded files remain unchanged.
Clear download history using “Clear browsing data”
Use this option if you want to remove download history for a specific time range.
- Click More (⋮) → History → History
- Select Clear browsing data.
- Choose a Time range (Last hour, Last 24 hours, All time, etc.).
- Uncheck everything except Download history.
- Click Delete data.
Only download history will be cleared; no downloaded files will be removed.
Notes
- Clearing download history does not affect files stored in your Downloads folder.
- Incognito mode does not automatically clear the regular Downloads list—you must remove items manually.
